Here I am

Ok, so, I'm not always the smartest guy...

I somehow managed to lose my spot here and couldn't find my blog and to be honest, I'm not sure if I will find my way back as I'm unsure how I managed to get back here. Confused? Yeah, me too...

Anyway, lots going on. A few weeks back, I went to the Arnold Classic in Columbus, OH and met with some old pals and had some meetings about business. I came away a bit reloaded and work started on a new web site. In that time, a pal of mine that I train worked on my current forum and we are revamping that site as well.

The cool things have been all the things going on. I will continue to write for the Beverly International Newsletter. I am working on a monthly column on our training that will be on the House of Pain website. It is my hope in the next month to start hosting a radio show and I'm doing phone interviews for another website. I'm talking to some folks about relaunching the clothing line as well. Many irons in the fire and even some I haven't mentioned so, my absence has been from being so busy and...I couldn't find my way back.

Cleaning my slate

Given the issues with my family and Mother and being as busy as ever, I have slacked. So, if anyone has been reading and wondering, I am back. I also managed to screw up the password thingy here and finally, I got back. I have started a new training cycle. I don't know specifically when I'll compete again. I felt I needed to pull the plug with all the injuries and the issues with family, etc.

So, I'll post later on about what the training has been like and what's been going on in the strength world as the last 3 weeks have been extremely busy.

Week 15 in training

Had a productive bench session Monday. I got back in the bench shirt and hit:
585x2-missed the 3rd at the top as the shirt wasn't right
585x3-much better
605x3-best set

95 to go

Tuesday I went easy again as I'm healing fromthe groin/hamstring injury
Squatted 505x2 top set with just a belt and it was fin but, the leg was extremely tight. This is much better than the 325 the week before that was painful.

Wednesday was a light day. After pushing pretty hard on Monday and not wanting to aggravate the leg, I did a little aux work and a few Oly and log lifts and spent my time coaching the group.

This morning was pretty good. My shoulders are still a bit tight from Monday so I stayed at 500 for declines. Today was a flat back day.

500x6-3 sets
475x8

Each set felt better as I went along

Tomorrow I'll deadlilft and then gather myself for the drive to Columbus, Ohio for the Arnold Classic. This is a business trip. I am launching a new website and much of the work will be done by a pal of mine that I will meet there and hang most the weekend with. I am to meet with the supplement distributor that i do lots of work and business with on my writing for them and then another meet with Super Human Radio. There is interest in me hosting a show for them so, we will see. So, think positive thoughts and hopefully this will be time and money well spent.

An interesting oppurtunity

Thursday, I added another lifter to the morning group. This would be a challenge for both of as he doesn't have the use of his legs. Interestingly enough, this lifter has a great sense of humor and doesn't seem to be bothered by his situation. He is actually married to one of the female lifters who has been with us for a month now. He had two concerns. 1, he didn't want to take anything away form her as far as coaching and attention and 2, he didn't want to be a bother or in the way. I told him, like his wife, these are the training times. Show up, don't get in the way and be prepared to bust some ass. And well, he did.

He declined with use yesterday. Fellow weighs roughly 155-160. He declined 225x6, 245x6 and then 225x8. I would imagine in short order, he'll be doing 275+ for reps. I was very please as was he.

I have been fortunate enough to have judged many, many meets where I've seen lifters like this compete so while I have never coached a lifter with any issue like this, we both have an idea of what to do come time to bench. We are both excited at the prospect of him being able to do something competitive sports wise for the first time in his life.

I'll keep you posted. This will be an interesting process.

Week 14 squat, aux & declines

My right leg, this time, has the groin/ham issue. So, I went very light.

Hammer seated leg curl: 45x15
Plate loaded leg extension: 75x15x2
Seated toe raise: 70x15

Close stance: 55x5
medium stance: 55x5
Comp stance: 55x5
145x3x2
235x2x2
325x2x3-that was it. It got worse with each set of the 325 and I opted to stop

Seated toe raise
70x15x3

That was it

Straight-arm pull down
50x15
70x12x2
80x12x2

Hammer shrug
90x20x2
115x20
140x20

Over head cable side crunch
100x15x5
Cable side bend
100x15x3

Donkey calf raise
90x15x5

I did a couple of clean and presses with the 12" log at roughly 155 lbs. Just babying the leg for this week.
that was it

Side raise: 5x15, 8x15
Hammer curl: 8x15, 10x15

Declines-arched
45x25
95x15
135x8
225x5
315x3
405x3
495x1
545x5-missed 6th right at the top, all 3 sets
505x7-missed 8th at the top as well. I could feel if I got just a little high coming up, I couldn't control the weight so the injury is better but, not 100% just yet.

Hopefully, a good session for tomorrow. Up early by 4:45 am.
